Rosalina Diaz Ochoa was born on July 24, 1943 in Agua de la Virgen, Jalisco. At the age of 15 she married and relocated with her husband to La Ladera, Michoacán. Despite only completing the third grade, Rosalina highly valued education as a means for her 13 children to have access to more and better opportunities. Notwithstanding the family and cultural expectations of the time, Rosalina encouraged her children, including her daughters, to stay in school as long as they could. A family of migrants, Rosalina’s incredible work ethic is evident in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In honor of the value she placed on education and in memory of her selflessness in the service of others, we created this memorial scholarship to support the academic dreams and aspirations of students descended from her beloved La Ladera, Michoacán.
